A 10% Studio Rebate for entries made on-line and paid with a Credit Card, at least 4 weeks (28 days) in advance of a competition. Paper entries, paid by Studio check, Money Order or Cashiers’ Check, postmarked at least 4 weeks (28 days) in advance of a competition, will be subject to a 10% Studio Rebate. Paper entries paid by Credit Card and postmarked at least 4 weeks (28 days) in advance of a competition, will be subject to a 7% Studio Rebate. All entries received LESS than 4 weeks (28 days) in advance of a competition, will NOT be subject to a Studio Rebate. Changes or additions to original entries will NOT be subject to a Studio Rebate. A minimim of $1,000.00 in total entries must be submitted to qualify for a Rebate. Gift
Certificates included as part of payment of entries, must be original certificates and do not qualify for a rebate.

Rebate checks will be made payable to the name of the school indicated on the Rebate Form and will be distributed at the competition to the director of the school or authorized personnel.

Cash Prizes are awarded to the Dance School. We reserve the right to reduce cash amounts or award Gift Certificates in lieu of cash prizes.

Entries are accepted on a first come/first served basis and are limited to performance time available. Facsimile entries will NOT be accepted. Payment may be a Studio Check, Cashiers Check, Money Order or Credit Card. NO Personal Checks accepted.

ALL CHANGES to original submitted entries must be in writing, no verbal requests will be honored. Changes to original entries MUST be submitted 7 days prior to the event or they will not be implemented.

Changes received after entries are confirmed are subject to a change fee. Category’s left unmarked will be placed into OPEN, a change received on those unmarked entries will be subject to a change fee.

Limit of 3 (three) Solos entries per contestant at each Regional Competition.

Vocalists need to supply their own microphones.

A minimum of 5 entries may be submitted, for a competition, and be submitted by a School, NO INDEPENDENT ENTRIES will be accepted.

If a question should arise concerning the age of a contestant, proof of age by birth certificate must be provided.

Only contestants who qualify at regional’s, may compete in the national finals. Substitutions or additions are not allowed.

Reduced-size groups will be permitted in the finals. If a group goes down to two or three, it becomes a duet/trio; however, a Duet/Trio may NOT be reduced to a solo.

If a contestant does not compete on the scheduled day for their division, then they will be allowed to compete for evaluation and award and NOT High Score.

Contestants must enter the same category in the finals for which they qualified in the regional’s.

Age is calculated as of the day of the performance.

Gold, Silver and Bronze winners at regional’s are eligible to enter the finals.

Types of entries are Solo, Duet/Trio (2 or 3 contestants), Small Group (4 - 9 contestants), Large Group (10 -19 contestants), Line (20 or more contestants) or Production (20 or more contestants-minimum of 15).

In the dance categories, the time limit is 3 minutes for Solos, Duet/Trios and Groups; 8 minutes for production/line routines. A musical tag or dance-on or dance-off stage counts toward the allotted time. A deduction of 1 point per 5 seconds overtime will be made.

Each contestant must furnish his/her own music on CD or cassette, CUED AND READY TO START. CD’s & Tapes must be properly labeled with title of the music, age group, division and category. (Backups are suggested)

A limit of 2 acrobatic tricks will be allowed in Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Pointe, Lyrical or Clogging. A one-point deduction per Judge will be made if more than 2 acrobatic tricks are used in these categories. Splits and lifts are allowed.

The Theater/Acting category must consist of a 3-5 minute routine from an original or published play, speech, book or movie. Judging will be based on difficulty and interpretation of the piece, use of voice, appropriate eye contact poise and physical presentation, and memorization. Costumes are optional and will not be judged.

Freestanding props are allowed; however, fire swords or knives are NOT permitted.

Contestants will compete in the following age groups: 6 & Under, 7 & 8 yrs., 9 & 10 yrs., 11 & 12 yrs., 13 & 14 yrs., 15 & 16 yrs., 17- 19 yrs., 20 yrs. & Over. For Duet/Trio & Groups, the average age determines the age group in which they perform. Add the ages of the contestants and divide by the number of the contestants. If the average ends in .5 or over, round up to the next age. Names and birth dates of all contestants MUST appear on the entry form.

A contestant is not allowed to compete against himself/herself in any Solo category.

Entry fees are: $80= Solo, $90 = Duet/Trio, $28= per person for Small Groups, $28= per person for Large Groups, Line or Production $25=Outstanding Costume, $25= Photogenic ( 2 photos no larger than 8 ½ x 11” ). Please note: Starbound cannot guarantee the condition or return of submitted photographs.

Photography is NOT Allowed. Video Taping and Movie Cameras are strictly prohibited from the performance area.

Awards are based on composite scores and NOT on placement within an age group; therefore, there could be several Gold winners within one age group in a category.

The highest Solo, Duet/Trio, and Group scores in a Regional competition will be awarded $100 in the form of Cash or Gift Certificate. Separate Awards for Production/Line Category in the form of Cash or Gift Certificate.

Petite Division. Children 8 years and under. This category enables younger children to have an opportunity to win Top Awards.

Teachers category, with separate Awards and Prizes! A Teacher is any person who choreographs and conducts class that is over age 19. Teachers cannot compete in student categories.

Competitive Category for all performers. Novice Division will receive a 5 point courtesy for any dance. For Novice Category we recommend that the performers have 2 years or LESS of training. Novice entry may be at the discretion of the Studio Director/Teacher.
